Looking for Fresno (CA) Homestucks!

dizzlefoshizzlestrider:

As many of you likely know, Ani-Jam is coming up! Wouldn’t it be swell if we had our own Can Town as well? I’d like to propose that those of us who are planning on cosplaying Homestuck (Or maybe you just want to help out! Cosplay not required.) bring cans of food so that we can build our own wonderful Town of Cans! Please let me know if you’re interested so we can work out a plan, yes? We need to figure out where we would like to donate the cans to, a time and place, maybe see if we can make some promotional art, and depending on the size we might even be able to get the Bee to cover us! We SHALL make our presence known!

Not much Homestuck goes on in Fresno, but I know there are fellow fans out there! Here’s our chance to do something positive during the Megapause! Homestucks unite! <3

Attention AZ Homestucks!!!

higurepanda:

So for the past few days Niji and I have been talking about doing a Homestuck meet up (with cosplay optional) here in AZ to hold our own Can Town Project event!

We’re currently still trying to figure out a date and location which is why I’m writing this. If there are any azstucks who come across this and would like to help us plan this and/or would want to participate, please send me or Niji a message or ask! XD

Also please help spread the word. We really want to do this! It would be a great way for us Homestucks to meet up and have some fun while still helping out our community.

Also you don’t have to be Homestuck to partcipate!! If you’d like to just come and join in a fun way to help out the community you’re very welcome to join us!

Thanks!! <3

PSA IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR PEOPLE FOR A CERTAIN AREA

So our Unorganized Locations page doesn’t get looked at very often and from what I can tell you the people listed as contacts almost never get interest expressed for that exact reason.

So I’d just like to say that if you’re looking for people interested in having a Can Town in a certain area you’re chances are probably better if you make a post about it, and we will be more than happy to signal boost it for you.

I would make sure to give it a good title though, something like “Looking for [area] Homestucks!” or something like that, but that’s just me.

sandiegostuck:

Howdy Everyone! Mod Stanley with a Great Announcement!

If your part of the group or not, I would like to formally invite you to a Food Drive & Cosplay Gathering that our group, San Diego Stuck, will be hosting this Saturday, April 20th, between 11am and 6pm at Embarcadero Marina Park North (which is near Sea Port Village and the San Diego Convention Center).

Our food drive (Can Town) will be collecting food to donate to the San Diego Food Bank and my goal is to collect 200 pounds worth of food. (Keep in mind that 1 canned good “equals” to 1 pound.)

Because the San Diego Food Bank specializes in food distribution and storage, they except most goods after their expiration date, most after one year (sometimes longer) of their expiration date and as long as the goods are still in their original, sealed condition (never opened). Not only do they accept food, but they are also in dire need of sealed water bottles and gallon water jugs, which I hope to assist in this food drive.

Also, if a canned good is damaged, it is probably still acceptable!! As long as the original labeling is still intake and the edges/corners aren’t dented. (note that small dents in the center of the can is OK and slight can rust is also OK)

~ VERY IMPORTANT ~ : The SDFB does not accept goods in glass jars or glass bottles due to safety for the people getting the food in the end run and for the staff and volunteers that work at the SDFB.

Another Special thought when picking out donations: “Would you feed what your going to donate to your grandparents?” This thought isn’t meant to force you to go buy something more expensive. In the contrary, I would hope you be smart about your spending (use coupons!), but try to think about the contents of the item: sodium, fat, cholesterol, protein, etc.

So here is a list of food & goods the San Diego Food Bank is looking for:

  • Canned meats (tuna, ham, chicken)
  • Canned Soup
  • Canned Fruits
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Dried beans, rice, and cereal
  • Peanut Butter
  • Powdered Milk
  • Infant Formula
  • Packaged Nuts
  • Dried Pasta
  • Bottled Water and Gallon Water Jugs
  • Juice in cartons, fruit drinks, punch
  • Pet Food (Dogs, Cats, and other Animals)
  • Charcoal
  • Backpacks for Kids
  • Toothbrushes
  • Tooth Paste
  • Soap, Shampoo, Conditioner
  • Shaving Cream
  • Hygiene Goods ( Deodorant, Razors, Feminine Goods)
  • Paper Towels & Toilet Paper

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to send me a message through FB or send an ask to the SanDiegoStuck Tumblr. I really hope for this to be successful and hope to see you all there.

THE HSPH MEGAPAUSE CAN TOWN EVENT!

Hello HSPH! The admins of this group have had an idea!

Instead of feeling bad about the Megapause, we can do some good while we’re waiting [other than churning out wonderful art, of course (edit: or making a million memes)]. We are introducing THE HSPH MEGAPAUSE CAN TOWN EVENT, inspired by the Can Town Project (http://cantownproject.tumblr.com/).

Let’s mobilize our 600+ members :)) Everyone in the Philippines knows that every year thousands of people have a shitty time during storm season. Shittier than FOUR megapauses. Probably worse than a yottapause.

So, how do help?

Mechanics:

1. Donate essential items (e.g. old clothes, canned or aluminum packed food, baby formula, etc.) to organizations integral to disaster relief (e.g. the Red Cross, places of worship, schools, similar foundations).

2. Time period: April 17 to May 20!

3. Snap a shot of your relief goods and you! You can do this in cosplay, ofc. :)

4. Post this shot to the event page (https://www.facebook.com/events/488606261187901/) or SUBMIT! it to the HSPH tumblr so that we can encourage others to help!

5. People who help get special awards! *waggles eyebrows in an alluring manner.

Recommendations:

1. If you cannot scrape up the money/goods yourself, pool your resources with your cosplay buddies, or other members of the group in your area (area doc), or ask your parents if they are cool with it. Please don’t tell them we forced you to do it! This is not graded, thanks.

2. You don’t need to do this, but it would be cool to share the love, wouldn’t it? :D

Even if you aren’t in the Philippines, you can still participate!
